Profits from Tom Morello's 'Union Town' Album to Support Workers

Grammy Award-winning guitarist Tom Morello is donating all profits from his new album of labor songs, Union Town, to a fund benefiting union workers under attack from right-wing governors and anti-labor groups.

Morello, formerly with Rage Against the Machine and now The Nightwatchman, performed songs from the new album with his band at the state capitol in Madison, Wis., in February, as tens of thousands of embattled workers rallied.

Morello said the workers' struggle in Wisconsin was the inspiration for Union Town. "Performing in Madison and seeing 100,000 people in the streets demanding justice inspired me to record an album of union fighting songs," he said. "I've been a proud union man for 22 years and my mom was a union public high school teacher, so for me this fight is very personal."

He called unions "a crucial counterweight to the raw corporate greed that torpedoed our economy, threatens our environment and wants to strip away decades of social progress."
